Dale Schaffer, owner of Elysian Fields Specialty Florals, knows firsthand that personal service can make all the difference during difficult times:

"When my Father passed away, I was overwhelmed upon entering the funeral home. I was so touched by the numerous floral tributes sent by friends and colleagues. At the same time, I recall the arrangements being standard in every way - with poor designs and poor quality flowers. When he was living, my father was the proud owner of a family flower shop. He understood that flowers should soften the atmosphere and create a serene setting. Unfortunately, this legacy was not reflected at his own passing. It saddened me to think that these arrangements had just been thrown together or, even worse, had fallen apart in delivery vans. I knelt at each arrangement and "fixed" the designs so that our friends would not associate such poor craftsmanship with my father's final farewell. It is with this memory that I began Elysian Fields.

We often hear "I do not want the arrangement to look like a 'funeral' arrangement" when clients are placing orders for sympathy flowers.
Our designers create each and every funeral arrangement with originality and an eye to detail. Most importantly, our designs come from the heart. They are dignified and fitting for the celebration of a loved one's life. When desired, we offer private consultations for family members to discuss their loved one's tributes.

On certain occasions, the family of the deceased will request a charitable donation in lieu of flowers. This phrase is commonly used and often misunderstood. "In lieu of flowers" offers another option for expressing condolences, but it does not entirely exclude sending a floral tribute to the viewing or memorial service. Elysian Fields honors this request by creating a beautiful vase arrangement
that the family can take home after the ceremony, as opposed to the traditional pieces that are taken to the gravesite.
